Timing belt drive

The timing belt drive represents the most modern and effcient power transmission system and is replacing, in some applications, traditional roller chain and gear drivers. Technical evolution in power transmission design has required drives that transmit increasingly higher power to weight ratio. This brings about high dynamic stress conditions - the major cause of belt failures such as tooth jumping, tooth shear and noise. These failures are obviously unacceptable with the need to ensure the reliability, safety and noise-reduction criteria which the market now requires from modern drives.
The Designer has the possibility to decide which profle to use.
The trapezoidal profile
The most common profile is the trapezoidal profile where low to medium power transmission is required.
The trapezoidal profile is available in: T, AT (metric), MXL, XL, L, H, XH, XXH (inch), endless, endless welded, open length.
The HTD profile (high torque drive)
HTD belts have a curvilinear tooth form giving a more uniform distribution of shear stresses within the teeth and a better transition of tooth loads to the tensile members in the belt.
The HTD-profile is available in:
HTD 3, HTD 5, HTD 8, HTD 14, endless, endless welded, open length.
A further development is the RPP-profile. RPP and HTD belts and pulleys are fully interchangeable.
The Designer has the possibility to decide which profle to use.
