X-ray inspection system for pistons
Y.MU 56K
YXLON International GmbH
The Y.MU 56K for pistons is a fully automated X-ray inspection system especially designed to inspect pistons. Pistons in TDI diesel engines are thermally heavily loaded. Therefore, a cooling channel is applied in the bottom of the piston, through which the motor oil flows. This cooling channel is produced by placing a respective salt core into the mold. After the casting process the salt core is flushed out of the piston.
During production the salt core may crack, be damaged or displaced, resulting in flashes or other irregularities in the cooling channel of the piston. Also, the salt core may not be flushed out completely. Under operation in an engine this results in insufficient cooling and overheating of the piston bottom, and as a result in engine breakdown.
