Anti-reflecting coatings are designed to reduce Fresnel reflections from optical component’s surface and therefore improve the overall transmittance of optical system, where the component is used. Reflection of common glass surface at normal incidence is around 5 %. Anti-reflection coatings can reduce this number less than 0.1 %. AR coated windows are used in systems, where more expensive optical components need to be protected from the environment.
