Concentric towers represent a new improvement in energy and cost efficiency compared to simple or double-bed (split) activated carbon absorption towers. These towers use a radial flow system which involves a reduced loss of load, greater efficiency and allows a higher quantity of adsorbent to be added in comparison to conventional bed-depth adsorption systems. They can contain any Bioconservación adsorbent and there can be several treatment stages, if a refined end product is required or if there are various contaminants requiring treatment using different adsorbents. Advantage of concentric towers: Greater energy efficency due to the design means there is a decreased loss of load enabling the electricity consumption in terms of kW to be reduced by half. In the majority of cases, there is a saving after one year equivalent to the cost of changing the impregnated activated carbon. Furthermore, it can be used with medium pressure rather than high pressure ventilators, which represents a reduction in the facility’s energy use. A compact unit, with a footprint between 1/2 AND 2/3 Smaller, they take up less space and it also means that they are easier to transport. Greater bed uniformity, there are no preferential routes and the efficiency of the elimination of contaminants is not diminished. Filling it is a simpler operation. Greater volumes treated, the rate of flow is almost double that of a conventional tower with the same diameter, with smaller losses of load. They can treat between 2,000 m3/h and 50,000 m3/h in the standardised range, and there are special designs for 75,000 to 90,000 m3/h.
