Description

In these filters, the deep bed principle is exploited to the maximum level through a design which generates considerable fluid accumulation and thus, very high hydrostatic pressures. The WATERFALL systems are indicated for the purification of oil-based emulsions, synthetic and neat oils with maximum viscosity of 20 cSt. at 40 °C and flow rates ranging from 300 to 1600 litres/min with filtration degrees, depending on the fabric used, which can vary from 10 to 50 microns. These systems are primarily used in the processes such as metal drawing, rolling, sanding, grinding, and industrial washing. The liquid to be filtered is conveyed to the internal par of the system through a lateral opening. From this point, by means of a dedicated flow distributor, the liquid is dispersed onto the underlying fabric, forming a basin subject to hydrostatic pressure on the fabric itself, which then takes up the contaminating particles. These particles, in turn, accumulate until they form a filter cake" that further increases the filtration rating. Despite the considerable amount of accumulated sludge, the liquid, due to the high hydrostatic pressure achieved, continues to permeate the filter medium and causes the pollutant layer to thicken progressively. This greatly reduces the consumption of filter fabric. When the filter medium reaches its maximum limit of sustainable pressure, compromising its permeability, the fluid level rises, activating the gearmotor, which will then advance the exhausted fabric, causing a portion of fresh fabric to settle to the centre of the filtration basin. The soiled fabric will be ultimately collected together with the sludge in a dedicated bath.
