Description
The TINT TESTER 527 is specifically designed for brightness measurements on dark, paste-like test layers (e.g. applications of pigment pastes for tinting strength determination according to ASTM D 3265 and ASTM D 2745). It also enables measurement of standard brightness values on solid samples such as coating layers, paper and plastic surfaces.

Design
The TINT TESTER consists of a mains-powered stationary supply unit with a 4½‑digit LED display and the portable brightness measuring head TINT SENSOR Y. The TINT SENSOR Y operates with the standardized 45°/0° geometry and illuminates the test area with standard illuminant C. The spectral sensitivity of the photodetector is corrected with a Y filter so that readings correspond to the Y response of the CIE 2° standard observer.

Optics and electronics
Transmitter and receiver each include an adjusted lens optics ensuring homogeneous illumination of the sample area and defined capture of remitted light, providing standards-compliant, drift-free and reproducible results. An integrated preamplifier reduces interference in the opto-electronic system; the gain is adjustable to adapt the measuring range optimally.

Measurement spacing
Two 8 mm wide transverse bars integrated into the underside of the measuring head, spaced 80 mm apart, keep the head at 0.5 mm from the sample. The bars prevent sample damage and sensor contamination and allow non-contact brightness measurement on freshly applied coatings with a wet film thickness up to approximately 400 μm while fully shielding stray light.
