CXL™, Memory Expansion Unlocked SK hynix’s first CXL™ memory offering is a 96GB card composed of 24Gb DDR5 DRAM chips built on the latest 1anm process. Packaged as an EDSFF (Enterprise and Datacenter Standard Form Factor) E3.S, the solution supports PCIe 5.0 x8 lanes, standard DDR5 DRAM and CXL™ controllers embedded within. The first samples are ready to ship from Q4 2022. Benefits of CXL™ Memory Expansion Solution Increasing CPU core counts requires a corresponding growth in memory bandwidth and capacity, but the capability of platforms to provide such is conversely and increasingly falling short – a widening gap that CXL™ memory can address. Using SK hynix’s first bandwidth-expander CXL™ memory as an example, the below graphic demonstrates the bandwidth and capacity gains of adding CXL™ L memory to a system, which is comparable to attaching additional local DIMMs.
