Depending on the replaceable insert used - the workpieces can be clamped in a 60 ° centering hole or workpieces with a 60 ° rotating taper support cone or for example parts without a drilled hole on the surface, tubes at the inside diameter etc. The rotating part of the live center is closed by a conical cavity which enables clamping of various inserts in the shape of "a ÷ g" as required. The inserts must be pressed into the cavity with a clamping force (by tailstock).
