Caimans belong to the crocodile family and live in tropical areas of the Americas. Their natural habitats are lakes, rivers and swamps, but they are able to adapt to man-made constructions such as ponds, reservoirs and ditches. The body of a caiman can reach a maximum length of three metres, though most of them grow to two metres. They grow throughout their lives and engage in highly socialized behaviour: they often hunt together and share their catch.
