SMAB robust off-axis modular encoder with low profile SMAB from Lika Electronic is the off-axis absolute modular encoder to be paired with the MRAB axial flat ring. It combines the advantages of the shaftless design with the benefits of the contactless and wear-free magnetic scanning. Thanks to the fully protected readhead and the large through hollow bore of the ring, it is suitable for installation in large diameter shafts and harsh industrial environments. SMAB is designed in a rugged readhead with fully encapsulated electronics and guarantees up to IP69K protection rate. It provides great resistance to dust, liquids, shocks, and vibrations as well as an excellent durability under adverse conditions and even wash down applications. The MRAB ring is very flat and only 6 mm / 0.236” thick with large through hollow shaft (80 mm / 3.149” bore, up to 95 mm / 3.74” on request). The poles are magnetized axially and the readhead is mounted off-axis over the ring. The slim profile and the comfortable mounting tolerances make integration into confined spaces easier. SMAB has a resolution up to 18 bits, provides the absolute information through the SSI interface. Along with standard functions such as zero setting and counting direction, it also delivers warning and error bit information. In addition it is fitted with an integral LED to signal the correct operation and mounting tolerances. Cable and M12 connector outputs are both available. The compact slim design and the high rotational speed allowed enable the SMAB modular encoder to be well suited for position control of motors, direct drives, industrial robots, radars, antennas and for applications in constricted spaces.
