MAN Engines presented its new E3262 E302 gas engine for cogeneration (CHP) units for the first time at the Energy Decentral trade fair in 2016. Due to the stoichiometric combustion (λ=1), a 3-way catalytic converter is sufficient for the 12-cylinder engine to reduce nitrogen oxides and carbon monoxides. Since there is no need for an SCR system, emissions can be reduced at a highly efficient level so that even very low local limit values can be met. With an output of 275 kWmech at 1,500 rpm (50 Hz), the 12-cylinder engine produces ten percent more power compared to its naturally aspirated predecessor E2842 of the previous generation. The MAN engineers have achieved the power enhancement by increasing the bore to 132 mm, resulting in a larger displacement of now 25.8 litres. The optimised combustion and the cylinder head with 4-valve technology also made it possible to achieve a higher overall efficiency of 93.6 %. With 54.0 % thermal efficiency and an outstanding 39.6 % mechanical efficiency, the latter shows an increase of over six percent or 2.4 percentage points. In addition to increased output and better efficiency rates, the latest naturally aspirated engine from MAN Engines also provides more comfort: For the E3262 E302, an integrated cable harness is already available ex works. Via a CAN interface, important engine parameters such as exhaust gas, oil pressure, mixing and coolant temperature as well as charging pressure can be retrieved and easily made available for plant control.
