The motors can be supplied with feedback for use with servo drives or run sensor-less on a suitable frequency converter (most of the major brands such as Lenze , KEB, SEW, Hitachi, Omron, Yaskawa, Nord etc. support sensor-less operation).These motors are advantageous in many applications: Oil-free Due to the very low losses these motors can provide a very high power without oil cooling hence eliminating oil leakage. Compact The 82mm diameter MTS Motor delivers as much power as a standard 137mm diameter drum motor. Standardisation One motor - usually of a smaller diameter - can cover a wider range of different applications reducing the number of variants. Low self-heating Very low losses mean significantly reduced heat. This is particularly helpful in food production (the well known „chocolate production“ application springs to mind). These Motors are hence also less sensitive to higher environmental temperatures. High Power You always have enough torque even at high speed - very useful in logistics. High Acceleration If you have an in-feed application e.g. a collating conveyor, then these motors can provide high acceleration even with large loads.
