Overview
The PCE-VDV 10 is a portable network tester for diagnosing faults in network and coaxial cables. It is a two-part system with a main unit and a remote unit that enables testing of permanently installed cabling. The tester supports shielded and unshielded twisted-pair cables (Cat 3 to Cat 7A) and coaxial cables used in TV, antenna and surveillance systems.

Function and use
The tester performs continuity checks on individual conductors (pins 1…8), wiring verification to confirm correct pair assignment, and detection of short circuits, miswires, reversals and split-pair faults. Shield integrity of shielded cables is also tested. Test range extends up to 305 m; minimum cable length for split-pair detection is approx. 0.5 m. Test signals are exchanged between the main unit and the remote. Results are displayed via LED indicators: steady LEDs indicate correct wiring, blinking LEDs indicate faults. Status LEDs identify fault type (short, miswire, reversal, split pair). Typical applications include network installation, building cabling and IT/communications installations for electricians, network technicians and service engineers.
