OverviewThe PPD Series vacuum paddle mixer-dryer is a jacketed, vacuum-rated horizontal vessel with a slow-turning paddle agitator designed to dry filter cakes, sludges, wet granules and battery materials. Hollow heated paddles and a hollow heated shaft increase effective heated surface, improving drying rate versus jacket-only designs. Typical applications include heat-sensitive products and processes requiring solvent recovery.
How it works — The Mixing Action- Gentle bed turnover: wide, low-speed paddles lift and fold the full cross-section without crushing; suitable for free-flowing powders to sticky cakes across the drying curve.
- Heated shaft & paddles: thermal fluid circulates through the hollow shaft and paddle faces and the jacket, increasing heated area per litre (up to +90%) and reducing cycle time.
- Phase-change tolerance: paddle geometry maintains torque and renews wall contact during the sticky transition where tray and thin-film dryers may stall.
Fit — Where the PPD Series Earns Its PlaceStrengths- Highest heated-surface-to-volume ratio of any horizontal vacuum dryer (hollow shaft & paddles).
- Handles wet-to-dry phase change without stalling.
- Robust drive sized for sticky-transition torque reserve.
- Full-opening doors or bomb-bay discharge options for cleaning access.
- CIP spray bars and ATEX/inert-loop execution available.
Typical Duties- Filter cake and centrifuge cake drying.
- Battery precursor and cathode material drying with NMP recovery.
- Chemical intermediates, pigments and catalysts.
- Sludge conditioning and solvent stripping.
- API and fine-chemical final drying.
Industries- Specialty chemicals.
- Battery & energy materials.
- Pharmaceuticals & APIs.
- Food ingredients.
- Environmental / recycling.
Vacuum Advantage — Mix, Dry, React — One Vessel, Under VacuumOperation under reduced pressure (typical range below) lowers boiling points of water and solvents, enabling drying of heat-sensitive materials and efficient solvent recovery. Standard engineering includes ASME jackets, vacuum-rated bodies, closed-loop solvent recovery (condenser, receiver, cold trap), nitrogen back-fill for oxygen-free processing, product-temperature control and full batch data logging. Machines are validated on customer material prior to order and FAT-tested against agreed cycle criteria.
Additional Product Notes- Solvent recovery: condenser, receiver and cold trap recover solvents as liquids; NMP recovery is standard for battery duties.
- Atmospheric (non-vacuum) configurations available with same geometry and jacket options.
- Quotations based on heated area per litre, jacket and shaft fluid temperatures, evaporation rate at required vacuum, and torque reserve through sticky phase; pilot trials validate cycles.
