Slow, unpredictable, and labour-intensive drilling and grinding processes significantly reduce the commercial viability of remanufacturing. ARTES is a fully automated, enclosed, high‑throughput EDM system designed to tackle one of the biggest barriers in remanufacturing: disassembly. It integrates CNC servo axes with a purpose‑built frame and streamlines the process of removing fasteners, even when parts weren’t originally designed with easy disassembly in mind. This means high‑value components can be refurbished more efficiently. ARTES is akin to a ‘conventional’ EDM machine, but tailored for speed over accuracy. ARTES stands for “Automated Remanufacturing Towards Environmental Sustainability.” Co-funded by an Innovate UK SMART grant, ARTES enables unattended disassembly of components in batches, enhancing the commercial viability of widespread remanufacturing.
