Wireless connection to remote networks The use of globally available, public mobile telephone networks is a cheaper solution than building a corporate wireless network (e.g., Industrial Wireless LAN). It is also appropriate if no other transmission medium (e.g., dedicated line/telephone network) is available. Using the following SCALANCE M mobile wireless routers, both stationary stations and mobile users, e.g. railway and road vehicles as well as coastal vessels and inland navigation vessels, can be connected to a central control and monitoring system. The high data rates permit transmission of bulk data or images in real time. Depending on the application and availability, communication can take place via GSM, UMTS or LTE.
