Steinmeyer designed the heavy-duty versions of its ball screws from the ground up for their specific field of application: high-precision positioning of heavy loads using servo drives with high repeat accuracy. The design already starts with the choice of material. For the heavy-duty ball screws, for example, an alloy is used that achieves high hardening depths with low distortions. In addition, Steinmeyer adapted the large ball diameters as well as the nut body and especially the flange to the high forces. For example, the nuts have significantly higher wall thicknesses than is usual for conventional ball screws. In addition, the load transmission was optimized by FEM calculations.
