Surface : nickel-plated
Brass is an alloy of copper with zinc. Basically, a distinction is drawn between pure (binary) brass and special brass.
The material CuZn40Pb2 is the principal alloy for subsequent machining and is especially suitable for machining on automatic machine tools.
Corrosion behaviour :
brass processes good resistance to water, water vapour, various saline solutions and numerous organic liquids, but not to oxidizing acids. Under certain conditions (water with high chlorine content low carbonate hardness and low rates of flow) corrosion can occur in the form of dezincification.
Surface treatment :
on account of its special mechanical and chemical properties, nickel deposition is suitable for wear and corrosion protection. Nickel is readily polishable and magnetic.
