Matrox Video
The graphics card, graphics adapter or video card is a computer expansion card producing an image that can be displayed on a screen. It sends stored images at a frequency and in a format which depend on screen and port type (thanks to plug-and-play), as well as its own internal configuration.
TechnologiesThe principal components of a graphics card are:
- A graphics processing unit (GPU)
- Video memory (frame buffer) to store images before display
- A random access memory digital-analog converter (RAMDAC), which converts the frame buffer's digital images to analog signals sent to the monitor
- A video BIOS, which holds the card's parameters
- An interface, the bus connecting the graphics card to the motherboard
- A connector (VGA, DVI, S-Video, HDMI, etc.) to link the card to the monitor
