Surface treatment
The needle scalers can be used to remove rust, old paint-layers or concrete from surfaces. Also the removal of welding flux form the welding
seam is made easy be using the appropriate needle scaler. A wide range of shapes and sizes is available.
RSI
Repetitive strain injury, repetitive stress injury, or RSI is a term that most people have heard of. RSI is really a blanket name that is used to describe many different types of soft tissue injury including carpal tunnel syndrome and tendonitus. A mixture of bad ergonomics, poor posture, stress, and repetitive motion usually causes it. If you work with needle scalers on a daily basis you are certainly at risk from repetitive strain injury. It may not be life threatening, but RSI has the potential to cause crippling disability
and pain. Early treatment is the key to success, because recovery can be a very slow process. Better of course is prevention.
How to avoid RSI?
A well-balanced power to weight ratio
Vibration reduced to a minimum
A rubber handgrip will dampen some of the vibrations and gives the operator a smooth and good grip.

Gradall mine scalers are engineered to provide the extra reach, extra boom movement and the extra prying power to make a difference.
- Two section telescoping boom is armed with high-pressure, load-sensing hydraulics, delivering the appropriate scaling power without wasting fuel.
- Boom movements can be carefully controlled using joystick controls built into the seating module.
- To handle the rigors of mine scaling, the rugged triangular boom design includes double rollers and a tilt mechanism located at the rear of the boom structure.
- The 4 x 2 wheeled carrier can be maneuvered and positioned using two pedals and a tilt steering column.
- The Gradall operator cab is designed for comfort and safety with tinted safety glass windows, heavy-duty windshield guard, skylight, acoustical lining, fresh air heater and defroster with filter and other standard advantages.

Mechanization improves both the quality of scaling and the level of safety, productivity and effectiveness — not only of scaling work, but of the entire excavation process.
Normet offers a mobile mechanized scaling system: the Scamec 2000. This has evolved from successful scaler experience, hours of research and engineering work, and partnerships with mining and tunnelling customers around the world.
The Scamec 2000 scaler family comes in three interchangeable boom versions for optimum boom reach and coverage to fit the actual dimensions of the underground space. This reduces the need for repositioning and minimizes non-productive time.
Our Scamecs can be equipped with a hydraulic impact hammer for scaling in hard rock, or with a pick unit for primary scaling in soft and stratified rock and for secondary scaling in all underground excavations.
Normet Scamecs are easy to operate and provide high quality scaling for a safer work environment.
