GUASCOR has new technology for gasifying different types of biomass: Rice husks, olive cake from olive residues, wood chips, etc., with industrial plants already in operation.
The gasification plants are based on a modular concept, being able to process between 8,000 and 60,000 tonnes of biomass per year.
The gas obtained from the gasification plants is used as a fuel for the GUASCOR gensets, which convert it into electrical energy that can be exported to the national grid.
The high performance of the GUASCOR built biomass gasification plants, and the later production of electricity with the gensets, represents a competitive solution when compared with conventional boiler-fired systems.

Short reaction times and particularly high efficiency: the principles of a gas turbine and steam power plant are combined in a combined-cycle power plant. Efficiencies of up to 60% can be obtained by using a gas and a (downstream-arranged) steam turbine. Under combined operations (with integrated district heating supply) efficiencies of around 90% can be had.
In gas-fired plants as well, Hitachi Power Europe has both extensive know-how and a lengthy track record across the entire range stretching from planning via acquisition and design through to commissioning.
The highly successful and globally deployed H-25 / H-15 gas turbines from parent company Hitachi, Ltd. are the optimum ones for running power plants in a dependable, efficient and economical manner. Designed as a heavy duty machine (30 MW rating class), over 120 Hitachi gas turbines in power plants are in service throughput the world (as of mid-2009). The turbines are sound and dependable under continuous operations, involve low maintenance costs and are admirably suited for plants with cogeneration/district heating supply. Hitachi gas turbines are also used as power drive turbines in industry.

Utility power generator, flue gas cleaning system and turbine / generator: these three components (including the associated balance-of-plant equipment) form the "power train" of a power plant. Only a handful of companies worldwide are in a position to design, build and place this type of power train into operation. In view of its almost 100-year tradition and know-how, Hitachi Power Europe occupies a special position amongst these plant constructors.
In conventional power plants (coal, gas, oil-fired boilers fitted out with steam turbines), HPE has an extensive track record in unit sizes up to and over 1,000 MWe. The focus in combined-cycle power plants (gas /steam turbine power plants) is in the 40 MW to 400 MW (800 MW) capacity range.
As a specialist for all-in solutions, HPE covers all the requisite steps surrounding design, construction and commissioning, i.e. from approval planning, feasibility study and project management up to purchasing support.

Trigeneration is the conversion of a fuel into three useful energy products: electricity, hot water or steam, and chilled water. A trigeneration system is a cogeneration system extended with an absorption chiller that uses some of the heat to produce chilled water for air-conditioning of buildings and building complexes.
With a Wärtsilä trigeneration power plant you will reach the same output with notably less fuel input compared to separate power and heat generation.
Wärtsilä power plants have ready-made solutions for trigeneration which can easily be adapted to different market and customer requirements and delivered within tight time schedules.
Benefits
The trigeneration system makes utilization of the engine CHP plant highly efficient throughout the annual seasons and through changes in the local climate. The plant can flexibly run at high total efficiencies, producing heat and cooling for airport terminals, office and building complexes, housing areas, etc., and can interchange smoothly between supplying heating and/or cooling. At the same time it supplies the needed electrical power.

CAMPOFRÍO ALIMENTACIÓN S.A. is a leading international company within the food sector. It produces meat products which, for the production process, requires significant amounts of heat, in the form of steam and hot water, industrial cooling and electrical energy.
In 1996, with the purpose of reducing energy costs on the production processes and equipping the company with flexible installations in order to meet both present and future energy needs in a secure and efficient manner, GUASCOR ENERGIA went into a joint venture with Campofrío in order to construct and operate a Trigeneration plant - producing heat, cold and electrical energy - .
The Trigeneration plant operates 24 hours per day, seven days per week with a total of 8,700 hours of operation annually.
The installation incorporates four turbo-charged gas engines, each one rated at 3 MW, with a total installed power of 12 MW.
To cover the cold demand on the production process, the trigeneration plant is fitted with an ammonia - water absorption machine, which runs off saturated steam obtained from the heat recovered from the engines' exhaust gases.

WINTER 2003
LIPA purchases an additional 45 fuel cell systems for installation across Long Island. Twenty-five of the
5kW fuel cell systems will be installed at LIPA’s West Babylon Fuel Cell Demonstration Site, which currently
contains fuel cell systems feeding directly into the Long Island electrical grid. The remaining 20 systems
will generate on-site heat and power for single or multi-family residential sites, for the first time in LIPA’s
service territory.
Plug Power and LIPA continue to work together to gain information and experience to propel the evolution of
fuel cell technology as a source of power, while keeping very specific environmental concerns at the forefront.

For the co-generation system of diesel engines, those engines are diverted to industrial use which have abundant actual achievements proofed in the field of regularly used ship engines under severe using conditions for a long time. Although full operation during one year is possible, a maintenance of about once a year is necessary.
