With the assistance of a newly-developed jet nozzle system, both the rate of thermal transfer and the load capacity could be increased, achieving a considerable increase in throughput, especially with thick strips. Facilities have been built to process strip with a thickness between 0.3 and 6.35 mm, and a width up to 2300 mm.
Heating up times of 1 minute per mm have been achieved at setpoint temperatures of 540°C and a Δ T of +0 -3°C.
Tempering the strips in a combined cooler/quench connected to the furnace is a completely new idea. EBNER developed in close cooperation with the users a state-of-the-art quench system that achieves the necessary cooling gradients and tensile strengths for different strip thickness and different alloy groups on the one hand, and on the other ensures that the strip that leaves the quench is both flat and dry.
