SOLUPOR® membranes are highly porous with high gas, air and liquid permeability. Combined with a controlled pore size this makes SOLUPOR® suitable for a range of filtration applications. Made from Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene, using a unique patented proprietary manufacturing technology.
Different than for most other porous membranes, SOLUPOR® has a unique pore structure, being highly tortuous, with the membrane itself having a fibrilar structure somewhat similar to nonwovens. This makes these membranes very suitable for many applications in liquid (e.g. photopolymer) and gas filtration.
The performance of our filter membranes rely on a combination of collection mechanisms to remove particles of different sizes. The filtration efficiency of Solupor is much higher than would be expected on the basis of measure mean flow pore size ratings (MFP). All SOLUPOR® with MFP 99.9% according to US Military standard test method 209E. SOLUPOR® has a hydrophobic nature with excellent wetting properties; these films can however also be treated to make them hydrophillic as is needed in filtration of e.g. waste and/or process water.
SOLUPOR®'s good mechanical properties combined with its high porosity and smooth surface makes it an ideal substrate for composite membranes. The separation efficiency and effectiveness of SOLUPOR® coated with a thin functional layer can approximate theoretical values.
