A compactPCI (cPCI) interface card is characterized by metric 3U or 6U Eurocard format, which allows it to be used as part of an industrial chassis assemblage adhering to the same norm.
ApplicationsThese cards use PCI standards for data exchange with the bus. The norms define geometry and limitations concerning their use in backpane assemblies, such as in a VME chassis. Up to eight cards can be grouped, more with the addition of bridges.
TechnologiesSuch devices are usually intended for industrial use. The 3U format (100 x 220) works with a 32-bit bus. Unused backpane connections are used for I/O or to shift to a 64-bit bus. The 6U cards are always 64-bit. Operating voltage ranges from 3.3 to 5 V, and hot swapping is possible.
How to chooseChoice will depend on the other cards used in the assemblage and operating voltage.
