General description
The OCTOPUS system is a modular vacuum gripping solution designed for palletising robots and general vacuum handling. It adapts to objects of many shapes and materials (provided the object does not have excessive transpiration) and can grip surfaces that occupy only a small fraction of the total suction plate. Maximum lift capacity is proportional to the effective gripping surface. Standard OCTOPUS units are available in various sizes and configurations and can be customised on request.

Standard composition

• One or two compressed air-fed vacuum generators (ordered separately for most items; some small units include them in the code).
• Anodised aluminium open box with built-in stainless steel micro-fine mesh filter protecting the vacuum generator.
• Anodised aluminium suction plate sealing the box, with evenly spaced calibrated holes and coated with a special perforated foam rubber to adapt to smooth, rough or irregular surfaces.

Suction plate families and intended uses

• PX / P2X: Standard suction plates made of anodised aluminium with calibrated holes and perforated foam rubber. Two foam thicknesses: 15 mm (PX) and 30 mm (P2X). Designed for general handling; lifting force calculated for at least -75 KPa and safety factor 3.
• PH / P2H: Special sponge rubber-coated plates for gripping empty cans, tins, jars and vials without lids or caps. Two thicknesses: 15 mm (PH) and 30 mm (P2H). Not suitable for empty plastic or glass water/wine bottles; flexible containers must be vacuum tested to avoid implosion.
• PXE / P2XE: PX/P2X plates fitted with shut-off valves in each hole to automatically close in absence of object, reducing vacuum generator flow and enabling use in any orientation.
• PY / P2Y and PY2E / P2Y2E: High-force plates (PY/P2Y) for very rough/uneven surfaces; PY2E/P2Y2E versions include shut-off valves for energy savings and orientation independence.
• PV / P2V and PVE: Plates equipped with vacuum cups (bellows cups recommended) for very flexible or uneven surfaces (e.g. bags, blister packs). Cup supports: 1/8" gas for PV and 1/4" gas for P2V. PVE versions include shut-off valves on cup connections.
• PJ: Bag-gripping plates with special foam rubber seal for paper or plastic bags (powders, liquids, granules) to minimise deformation and vacuum loss.

Octopus bars and mounting
The OCTOPUS gripping bars facilitate installation on palletising robots. Typical features include a slotted aluminium fixing plate for quick mounting, one or more compressed air-fed vacuum generators (depending on size), quick-coupling compressed air feed, internal air inlet connections for quick restoration of atmospheric pressure, and a suction plate with calibrated holes and perforated foam rubber. Bars can be supplied with different suction plates, shut-off valves, or made lighter in Polizene thermoplastic.

Accessories and spare parts
Available accessories include vacuum switches (digital), electrical cables (axial and radial connectors), vacuum and pressure gauges, silencers, sealing kits and reed valves, stainless steel disc filters, supports for vacuum cups with calibrated holes, shut-off valves, flange fixing supports and distributor/locking plates for remote vacuum connections.

Notes
OCTOPUS systems can be customised in dimensions, suction plate types and vacuum generators on request. Some OCTOPUS items can be supplied with vacuum generator included in the code (e.g. certain small items), while most require the vacuum generator to be ordered separately.
