With bearings, chains and open gearing, lubrication is extremely critical. A thin film of grease should always be present to prevent metal-to-metal contact, which can quickly damage the components. Manual lubrication applied by hand can be unreliable and inconsistent and reduce the lifetime of the components. The automatic lubricators are available in sizes from 60 cc up to 475 cc with options for battery operation or externally powered. The lubricator flow rate can be precisely controlled directly on the lubricator or via PLC, and the lubricator emptying time can be adjusted from one month up to thirty-six months. Once the lubricator is empty, it can be reused and the lubrication cartridges can be replaced. The lubricators can handle pressures up to 70 bar and are available with single or multiple outlets for lubricating many components at the same time. The operation of the lubricators can be synchronized with the machine operation, so the grease or oil only flows when needed. It is also possible to electronically detect when the lubricator is empty and needs to be refilled or replaced.
