OverviewSide gusset (quad-seal) bags are flexible pouches produced from laminated films. They provide a stable pouch shape, high printability on up to five sides and are particularly suited to dry products such as pet food in sizes from 1 kg to 25 kg.
Process and machine conceptMachines are designed for mono-material processing and typically run from a single roll in longitudinal production. Advanced control algorithms enable accurate track following in machine direction while automatic transverse positioning systems center the film to maximise precision and reduce waste. Stable web guidance supports efficient material use and mono-PE composite workflows.
Options and modularityModular machine architecture allows integration of inline options and customer-specific units, enabling rapid adaptation to changing product requirements.
- Inline carrying handles (applied in side fold)
- Die-cuts and perforations
- Flat-bottom patch application
- Multiple reclosure systems and reclosure openers
ReclosuresTwo primary reclosure concepts are common:
- Front reclosure: applied and sealed to the front side of the flat film web; typical for smaller sizes but applicable to larger bags (examples: zippers, front sliders). Filling is not affected by the reclosure.
- Top reclosure: applied across front and back sides (zipper, hook-to-hook, top slider). The side fold is closed before applying the reclosure (single-lip bag). Machines include inline reclosure opening for filling lines.
Operation, HMI and format changeClear HMI with recipe management, easily accessible components and automatic positioning simplify operation and maintenance. Semi-automatic format change combined with machine controls enables short changeover times (typical changeover < 60 minutes depending on configuration).
Production modesBoth longitudinal and transversal production modes are available: longitudinal production (from one roll) is suited for large formats up to 1,000 mm and mono-materials; transversal layouts are available for dedicated jobs and bag lengths up to 500 mm (small transversal) and up to 1,000 mm (large transversal) or 490 mm in 2-up configuration for double output.
Flat bottom bagsFlat-bottom bags can be produced in longitudinal production by applying an additional bottom patch, enabling large flat-bottom formats up to 1,000 mm with reduced waste versus conventional transversal processes.
Applications and added valueTypical benefits: efficient material usage, high pouch stability, multi-side print capability, modular adaptability and integration with filling/robot packaging. Options include advanced belt tension control, non-stop production features, camera monitoring, robot integration and data export interfaces such as OPC UA.
