OverviewBENZ multi-spindle heads are designed for economical, simultaneous multi-point machining. They minimize main and non-productive times, reduce unit costs and expand production capacity — typically for medium to large series production. Configurations range from compact 2‑spindle units to multi-spindle XXL solutions.
Your benefits at a glance- Simultaneous multi-spindle machining to reduce cycle time per workpiece
- Lower operating time and increased throughput
- Improved cost-efficiency for medium to large batches
- Scalable production capacity with modular variants
- High positional accuracy and repeatability
Applications and optionsSuitable for drilling, tapping, counterboring, reaming, milling and similar operations. BENZ develops solutions from proven standard components in coordination with the customer. Typical options and variants include:
- Compact heads with 2 spindles up to XXL multi-spindle units
- Exchangeable flange or fixed/stationary flange
- Designs from lightweight to approx. 5 t heavyweights
System design- Drive cone / machine interface: interfaces to secure the head in the machine. All common drive cones available; special connections on request.
- Locking disc: secures exact angular position of the drive cone relative to the torque support arm; used together with locking sleeve and locking pin.
- Locking mechanism: drive-cone interlock plus locking disc prevents unintended rotation without tooling; enables precise placement in tool magazines and safe release when exchanging the head.
- Torque support arm: prevents rotation of the multi-spindle head during processing by securing to the machine spindle; adapted to specific machine types or available as standard BENZ arms.
- Support points: additional supports for maximum stability and machining accuracy.
- 360° graduated collar (optional): manual, continuously variable rotation to the required operating angle; fixed by clamping screws.
- Drill head: material selection matched to application (high-strength aluminium for low exchange weight, steel/cast iron for maximum stiffness). High-performance gearbox with hardened and ground gears for efficient power transmission.
- Tool holder / clamping system: customer-specific design. Central coolant possible through spindles or via coolant nozzles; coolant pressure up to 100 bar. Dry running possible.
Examples of implemented solutions- Custom multi-spindle angle head for brake caliper machining in the automotive industry
- 4-spindle head for heavy machining with power-split gearboxes
- Angled multi-spindle head with external cooling via coolant nozzles; tool holder: BENZ Solidfix® modular quick-change system
