Description

Description
The DET H2O is an electrolytic trace moisture analyzer designed for continuous measurement of water vapor in gas samples from 30 ppb to 5 000 ppm(v) H2O. Available in both portable and process configurations, the instrument uses an industrial electrolyser based on Faraday’s law for direct, reference-grade measurements that do not require routine calibration.

Main benefits
  • Reference measurement principle: electrolytic detection based on Faraday’s law, providing a traceable fundamental measurement without routine calibration.
  • Long-term accuracy: demonstrated stability and reduced need for frequent recalibration compared with sensor-based technologies.
  • Contamination resistance: compatible with corrosive gases (e.g., chlorine, H2S) thanks to selected wetted materials and robust cell design.

Main Applications
The DET H2O is commonly used as a calibration reference for other moisture monitors (for example, aluminium oxide sensors). When combined with a ppm moisture generator (PGE), it supports generation and verification of gas standards by mixing dry and water-saturated streams and electrolysing the mixture to produce known concentrations from 30 ppb to 5 000 ppm(v) H2O.

Other Applications
Suitable for industrial, chemical, petrochemical, natural gas and pharmaceutical purity control, refrigeration and power applications. Typical dedicated uses include:
  • Moisture monitoring downstream of chlorine gas dryers, with wetted materials in Monel 400, PTFE, glass and platinum.
  • Moisture measurement in natural gas using a porous membrane barrier to exclude glycol, mercury and other contaminants.
  • Measurement in refinery catalytic reformers with a corrosion-resistant version for HCl, Cl2 and H2S environments.
The sampling system is tailored to the application and assemblies can be supplied ATEX-certified for Zone 1 & 2 when required.

Technical specifications
  • Detection range:
    • Programmable: 30 ppb to 5 000 ppm(v) H2O; alternative display ranges such as 0–10 ppm(v) or 0–1500 ppm(v) (equivalent dew point at referenced pressure) available.
    • Optional decimal switching across ranges (e.g., 0–10 / 0–100 ppm(v)).
  • Performance:
    • Resolution: 0.05% of measuring range, minimum 0.05 ppm(v).
    • Sensitivity: 0.02% of measuring range, minimum 0.05 ppm(v).
    • Repeatability: linear response over range.
  • Communication:
    • Programmable dual-threshold moisture alarm.
    • Display: up to 5 digits via LED.
    • Analog outputs: 4–20 mA, 0–20 mA or 0–10 V (programmable), isolated.
    • Output accuracy: 0.1% of range; resolution: 12 bits.
    • Max load for current output: 500 ohms; min load for voltage output: 10 ohms.
  • Gas supply:
    • Sample pressure: 1.4 to 20 bar g.
    • Sample temperature: -20 to 80 °C.
    • Analyzer sample flow rate: 100 Ncc3/min.
    • By-pass flow (sl/h): Q = inlet pressure (bar g) × 11. Example: inlet 10 bar g → Q = 110 sl/h.
