Borosilicate glass has a very low coefficient of thermal expansion, about one-third that of ordinary glass. This will reduce the stress caused by the temperature gradient. Therefore, it has stronger fracture resistance. Because of its very small shape deviation, this makes it an essential material for optical systems. The borosilicate glass window is very suitable for the application of high temperature and harsh environment. The most commonly used high borosilicate glass for optical Windows are: BOROFLOAT ® 33, Pyrex. BOROFLOAT is three times more resistant to thermal shock than standard calcium carbonate glass.
