This is a special product with very stringent requirements designed and manufactured for a demanding customer. It performs a plunge groove and a pass with large radial stock removal, achieving a decidedly low roughness and avoiding a tool change. It has a high productivity because it succeeds in both the machining of the throat and the 5-mm pass to maintain high finish and tool life, thanks to the study of a dedicated chipbreaker, determined by several tests, which allows to optimize chip management. Mounting the insert vertically with an inverted cone gives great rigidity to the clamping. In addition, the inherent characteristics of polycrystalline diamond are enhanced by laser machining, features that contribute to the final roughness result.
