Description

Extension of steel's service life is directly related to removing impurities which may be invisible to the naked eye. This also ensures the zinc film thickness and corrosion category. In fact, sand was only used for sand-blasting long time ago. Today, technology is much more sophisticated - and not limited to sand. Grit blasting, or abrasive blast cleaning, is essentially a method for preparing the surface for the subsequent surface treatment ensuring optimum adherence but also the correct corrosion category. As an all-round supplier of surface treatment, blasting and shot blasting are crucial to DOT's preparation process. Mechanical cleaning of the steel surface is critical to surface treatments as a thoroughly cleaned surface binds better to hot-dip galvanizing, paint and other corrosion protecting surface treatments. Thorough preparations will always prove worth the while in the long run. DOT provides several types of cleaning of metal, shot blasting and surface treatments of iron and steel. Shot blasting is carried out by small metal balls rushing about inside a wheelabrator through which the item to be cleaned passes. Blasting may be preferable given the size of the item, a finer roughness or mobile blasting of inaccessible recesses. Grit blasting may be used for an item because it provides the desired roughness for metallization. The surface is then inspected visually to ensure quality. Finally, purity and roughness are checked by means of a comparator. However, a perfectly cleaned surface is a fundamental requirement when the service life of the finished surface depends on a solid basis.
