Description

Overview
DP Pulverizer jet mills use high‑velocity gas jets to produce submicron to ultra‑fine powders by particle‑to‑particle impact in a milling zone without grinding media. The design minimizes heat and contamination, making it suitable for heat‑sensitive, abrasive, oxidation‑sensitive and high‑purity materials. Systems are supplied for laboratory, pilot and continuous production, and can operate with air, nitrogen or steam depending on process and safety requirements.

Key features and process summary
  • High‑velocity compressed gas (air, nitrogen, steam) injected through engineered nozzles accelerates particles to near‑ or supersonic speeds.
  • Particle‑to‑particle collisions inside a smooth grinding chamber ensure size reduction without mechanical media.
  • Integrated internal air classifier or size‑selective discharge provides continuous classification and tight particle size distribution.
  • Low heat generation due to gas expansion and short residence time—suitable for heat‑sensitive materials and inert‑gas operation.

How it works (process steps)
  • Step 1 – Material feeding: Controlled metered feed (screw feeders, rotary valves, loss‑in‑weight, vacuum/pneumatic conveying) ensures stable throughput to the grinding chamber.
  • Step 2 – Particle acceleration: Gas nozzles create turbulent high‑velocity jets that entrain and accelerate particles.
  • Step 3 – Particle‑to‑particle collisions: High‑speed impacts fracture particles along natural weaknesses to the target size.
  • Step 4 – Internal classification: Aerodynamic classifier separates fines (carried with the gas) from coarser particles returned for further grinding, controlling top‑cut and distribution.
  • Step 5 – Product discharge & collection: Fines collected in cyclones and filters (bag or cartridge) and discharged to containers; gas cleaned, exhausted or recirculated per system design.

Advantages
  • Achieves ultra‑fine/submicron particle sizes without grinding media or internal cutting elements.
  • Excellent temperature control for heat‑sensitive compounds.
  • High product purity with minimal contamination risk.
  • Consistent, narrow particle size distributions with internal classification.
  • Handles abrasive and hard materials with reduced wear compared to media mills.
  • Inert‑gas capability for oxidation‑sensitive or explosive materials.
  • Continuous operation with predictable scale‑up from R&D to production.

Technical specifications
  • Typical particle size capability: ~1 μm to 20 μm for ultra‑fine applications; controllable up to ~50 μm with internal classification.
  • Operating principle: fluid energy (particle‑to‑particle impact) with no grinding media in the milling zone.
  • Gas options: air, nitrogen, steam (choice affects temperature control, oxidation risk and safety).
  • Classification method: internal air classifier for narrow particle size distribution and continuous operation.
  • Feed options: screw feeders, rotary valves, loss‑in‑weight feeders, pneumatic/vacuum conveying.
  • Product collection: cyclones, bag/cartridge filters; gas recirculation or exhaust per design.
  • Operation: continuous, scalable from lab/pilot to production; suitable for turnkey integration (feeding, milling, classification, dust control, PLC/HMI).
  • Safety features: inert‑gas capability, sealed containment for GMP environments, pressure‑rated housings and explosion protection as required.
  • Suitable materials: APIs, nutraceuticals, sugars, pigments, specialty chemicals, ceramic/mineral powders, battery materials and other high‑value powders.
