Air treatment unit

TYPE OF EQUIPMENT: Biotrickling. OPERATING PRINCIPALS: Ecochimica® biotrickling is used to treat gaseous effluents. Air enters the biotrickler and travels downward through the filtration bed, which is composed of siliceous/calcareous material (lapilli, mollusck shells etc.) and can last for several years. This material, humidified within the biotrickler, is coated with an aqueous ”biofilm” that houses the micro-organisms which metabolize the contaminants present in the air (through biological oxidation), transforming them into water vapour, carbon dioxide and biomass. Thus there has to be an even distribution of air throughout the whole bed volume, to facilitate the circulation of oxygen throughout the biofilm. Correct operation of the biotrickler requires the maintenance of the temperature, as well feeding soluction. Compared to the biofilter, Biotrickling is a closed system with higher efficiency and requires less installation space.
