To allow easy configuration of the CAN FD/CAN Gateway CG-FD/E the intiutive software cg-fd-tool was developed. The Graphical User Interface (GUI) loads a configuration either from the device via USB or from a file. After adopting to the users needs it can be loaded back into the gateway or saved again in a file in JSON format. Generating a configuration can even be done from scratch without a connected gateway. The tool shows present settings of the connected device and allows adjustment of CAN controller modes, baud rate setup and bus off recovery time. Furthermore filters for messages transfered between the two CAN channels can be set. If the gateway connects a CAN FD system with a Classic CAN network the tool offers three options how to handle CAN FD to Classic CAN transport. CAN FD messages may be dropped always, dropped only if length > 8 or sent always, but length truncated to a maximum of eigth bytes. The configuration program cg-fd-tool offers an intuitive an quick way to setup a CG-FD/E gateway for the most common application cases.
