Description

Technical description
The Original TABER® STIFFNESS TESTER 362 T (150‑T) is the industry reference for bending stiffness testing and is cited in many standards. Developed by Taber in 1937 and continuously updated, it is designed for testing flexible sheet materials such as thin plastics, paperboard, paper, metal foils, felt, leather and similar materials.

Precise determination of the bending stiffness of a wide variety of materials
A bi‑directional pendulum weighing system measures small load increments to evaluate resistance to bending. Rollers mounted on the driving disc apply force to the lower end of the specimen; as the specimen deflects from vertical the pendulum applies increasing torque. The test reading is taken when the pendulum mark aligns with the driving disc mark (7.5° or 15°) and is read on the fixed annular disc. Readings left and right are averaged to obtain specimen stiffness; bending moment is used to calculate resistance to bending.

Recognized in international test standards
The TABER® STIFFNESS TESTER 362 T (150‑T) is suitable for methods such as Tappi T489 and ISO 2493 for most papers and paperboard. For low grammage or highly flexible papers with stiffness in the 0–10 Taber units range, Tappi T566 applies.

Test a wide range of materials
Nine distinct testing ranges permit measurement from extremely lightweight, flexible materials to very rigid materials. Each range uses a specific roller position and pendulum load adjustable with supplemental weights. Testable materials include paper, paperboard, plastics, metals, nonwovens, textiles, rubber, felt, wire and cable.
