OverviewcoarseAIR™ is a coarse particle flotation unit that expands conventional liberation-class recovery by capturing coarser particles typically lost in standard flotation circuits. It increases plant throughput and overall recovery while enabling improved water and tailings management.
Key benefits- Increase plant throughput: recovering coarser fractions reduces grinding duty on mills, enabling higher throughput or lower grinding energy for the same throughput.
- Improve overall recovery: captures coarser particles (up to ~850 µm in sulphide minerals and >1 mm for some industrial minerals) that conventional flotation often misses.
- Support ESG objectives: coarser concentrates and improved tailings dewatering enable faster water recovery, reduced water loss and enhanced tailings stability.
Applications- Installed upstream of rougher flotation to treat the coarser fraction normally fed to conventional flotation cells.
- Tailings scavenging and retreatment to recover coarse particles from final tailings streams.
Design & features- Based on REFLUX™ classifier design: low-turbulence, high-density fluidised bed for efficient coarse particle separation.
- Inclined lamella channels utilise hindered-settling/classifier effects to separate ore from gangue.
- No internal moving parts within the separation zone, providing simple operation, lower energy consumption and reduced maintenance compared with conventional flotation cells.
- Modular external accessories designed to simplify implementation and integration into existing flowsheets.

Technical specifications- Recovered particle size: up to ~850 µm for sulphide minerals; >1 mm possible for some industrial minerals.
- Typical installation positions: upstream of rougher flotation or on tailings streams for scavenging/retreatment.
- Separation principle: low-turbulence, high-density fluidised bed with inclined lamella channels (classifier-based separation).
- Internal design: absence of internal moving parts within the fluidised bed; modular external accessories for feed and services.
- Operational benefits: reduced grinding energy requirement, improved dewatering and tailings stability, and lower maintenance burden.
- Available diameters / representative model sizing: pilot 100 mm up to industrial sizes 850, 1450, 1750, 2000, 2350 and 3000 (model codes: cA-100 to cA-3000).
