Haimo Exempted Source Water Cut Meter (XC-WCM) is a Dual-Energy Gamma Meter (DGM) equipped with a gamma source of extremely low activity, classified as exempted category by IAEA. XC-WCM determines the Water-Liquid Ratio (WLR) of three-phase (gas, water and oil) flow with Gas Volume Fraction (GVF) up to 90%, from which the water cut. The meter is independent of state of flow, phase miscibility such as emulsion, heavy oil and phase transition.
XC-WCM utilizes the gamma ray propagation and absorption principle and dual-energy gamma ray measurement technology. Different materials have different absorption coefficients to gamma rays passing through the materials. An installed source emits gamma rays at multiple energy levels which travel through the flowing materials in the measurement pipe, and a detector measures different energy level gamma rays passed through the flow. From these measurements, oil, gas and water fractions expressed in Gas Volume Fraction (GVF) and Water Liquid Ratio (WLR) are computed in real time through the combination of gamma ray attenuation equations at two energy levels, and a unity assumption of phase fractions. Water Cut is then determined from GVF and WLR. A special feature of XC-WCM is that it uses a gamma source of extremely low activity, classified as exempted category by IAEA, making meter operations extremely safe and less mandatory paperwork.
