OverviewThe Hundegger HM-3 400 is a 4-sided planer for structural timber that planes and chamfers up to four sides in one pass without presetting. It is available for manual or automatic feeding and is designed to handle wet, warped or twisted wood reliably thanks to powerful feed units and planer motors. The PC-based control adapts feed speed automatically based on motor load to maintain stable operation.
Planer HM-3- Planer HM-3 400: processing range from 20 x 50 to 300 x 400 mm — base machine for carpentry and prefabrication workshops.
HighlightsFully automatic planing and chamfering without presetting and retooling using automatic cross-section scanning, length measurement and pre-positioning of units and feeds. Optional automated conveying (cross conveyors, lifting table, destacking) enables single-operator loading and removal. Parts already joined can be planed and chamfered.
Key functions and modules- Scan planing: automatic cross-section detection allows planing with preset chip removal without manual presetting.
- Timber sizing: precise planing to defined cross-sections with up to 12 mm chip removal.
- Cutter replacement: centrifugal clamping enables tool-free cutter change in seconds (2 or 4 cutters per head).
- Cutter types: TriTALL® chrome steel, HSS, solid carbide, M42 with hardened cutting edge available.
HM-3 / machining capabilitiesThe HM-3 offers a machining width up to 400 mm and feed speeds up to 20 m/min. Planing data can be transferred from Hundegger joinery machines, from common joinery/CAD programs, or entered directly via the mobile control panel.
Advantages- Fully automatic thickness planing and chamfering
- Automatic cross-section measurement and prepositioning
- Selectable planing sides or partial areas at the display
- Ability to plane rafter heads and already-assembled parts
- Automatic transfer of planing parameters
- Manual or automatic feeding using conveyor systems
Automation and handling- Infeed cross conveyor: automatic loading with parts placed without spacing, then separated and fed in.
- Transferring conveyor: interface to joinery machines; conveys parts to the planer for automatic feeding when free.
- Transferring runners: route non-planed parts from the transfer conveyor to delivery supports.
- Lifting table with automatic destacking: accepts full wood packages and feeds layers to the infeed cross conveyor.
- Label printer on control panel: prints a label per processed part with job and part identification.
Machine operation and processingThe machine planes and chamfers up to four sides simultaneously. Operator or joinery program can preselect 1–4 sides or partial areas. Standard equipment includes infeed/outfeed roller conveyors and a sound insulation cabin. Extensive accessories are available for full automation.
