Description

The development of the equipment and control of the processes enable the femtosecond laser to meet the technical and economic requirements of the industry: Characteristics: • Accelerated productivity • Better cost control • Extreme precision and uncompromising quality • Thermal control • Low carbon footprint: limited power consumption, non-contact technique, no additives and no consumables • Miniaturisation • Improved performance of the final product (increases the intrinsic performance of materials) • Reproducibility • Control of unit price • Any surface geometry: 2D planes & 3D structures • All part sizes from μm² to m² • Material removal without burrs or thermal impact • Dimensional control • Enables new uses that were previously out of reach Materials suitable for treatment: Glass • Plastic • Metal • Textile • Organic material (eyes, bones, corneas) Laser etching allows the rapid and non-contact machining of roughness with perfectly controlled dimensions at the scale of micrometres. Examples of use and markets: Femtosecond laser cutting, etching, functionalisation or surface texturing applications are already deployed in the electronic components, flat screen, micromachining and semiconductor industries. Biomimicry is a source of inspiration for this technology. For example, we can reproduce the structure of a shark skin to improve hydrodynamics, that of a lotus leaf to make surfaces hydrophobic, or that of gecko legs for adhesion. It is also possible to create complex profiles on 2D and 3D surfaces. HEF already works for the following industries: • Transport • Electronics • Medical • Construction • Luxury goods • Energy
