Hunger precision O-Rings and toroidal sealing rings
are used as static seals. By selecting suitable materials,
a wide range of sealing problems involving different
fluids, pressures and temperatures can be solved.
The sealing effect is based on the principle that the
installation space in one direction is smaller than the
profile diameter. As a result of the elasticity of the material,
the ring deforms and provides an adequate seal,
even in the pressureless state. The onset of pressure
increases the deformation and thus the sealing effect.
It is important to keep the gap behind the ring - as seen
in the pressure direction - as small as possible so that
the sealing material cannot flow into the gap. This would
cause the destruction of the seal. It is also important to
select the correct shore hardness which should be correspondingly
higher at higher pressures.
