Fully damped in extension, IGS standard gate gas springs/gas struts are a suitable alternative to standard gate closers and allow a much greater choice of mounting positions. These gas springs are using IGS standard design for outdoors gas springs and have been specifically designed to withstand over 100,000 cycles outdoors or indoors.
These gas springs are heavily damped in extension, ensuring that the closing movement of the gate is slow and cannot hurt or injure the person standing next to it (gas spring's force may need to be adjusted to obtain optimal speed/force).
Please note that whilst there is no damping in compression, gate gas springs are self-powered and are producing a high force regardless of the direction of the movement, please check this page for further information.
When you try to close a gate with your hand, you need to exert a force on the gate. This force (in Newtons) times the distance between your hand and the hinge (in metres) gives you the "manual closing torque" required to close the gate.
If you want the gate gas spring to close this same gate, then you need to make sure that the "gate gas spring torque" is higher than the "manual closing torque" (in NewtonxMetre).
Typically, gate gas springs can produce the following torques:
For a 150mm stroke gas spring fitted 45deg, 100mm away from the pivot point
with 100 Newton --> 7 N.m
with 500 Newton --> 35 N.m
