Spray foam thermal barrier – the Class B build-upExposed spray foam is combustible and typically classifies as Euroclass E. FRED is intended as the intumescent thermal barrier when applied as a build-up of: spray foam → Supergrip FR fire-rated primer → FRED. This system can bring exposed foam to a Class B reaction to fire, while FRED itself is certified Class A2‑S1, D0.
Testing and PerformanceFRED achieved a 25-minute Warrington fire test rating when applied to a load-bearing timber frame wall under an 8 kN per l/m load (tested to BS EN 1365-1:2012 + corr 2013). FRED exhibits low to zero ignitability, low heat release and forms an intumescent char that increases barrier capacity under fire exposure.
Application Guidance- Intended for internal use. For external applications FRED should be overcoated with a suitable fire-retarding flexible coating or used in accordance with local building regulations.
- If spray-applied, use an intumescent spray machine; a TriTech T5 or machine with similar specifications is recommended.
- Suitable substrates include timber, spray polyurethane foam, concrete, steel and timber sheeting. No primer is required on most surfaces (use Supergrip FR primer where specified for the spray-foam build-up).
- Dries quickly; typical formulations are low-VOC / solvent-free.
