Description

Overview
Vacuum impregnation and varnishing units IMP-PG. The sealed autoclave system enables deep penetration and absorption of impregnating solutions and varnishes through controlled vacuum and atomization.

Installation layout
The system is built around a heavy-duty autoclave designed to withstand a maximum vacuum level of 400 mmHg or 700 mmHg. Workpieces are loaded on a mobile support with a trolley that runs into the autoclave on rails. A product reservoir (approx. 70–100 litres) is located at the autoclave base. A pump feeds the product to star-arranged atomizers mounted on a horizontally travelling carriage that covers the full autoclave length.

Operation — typical cycle
  • Initial vacuum stage to evacuate air from wood pores.
  • Treatment by finely atomized impregnating solution or varnish; operation can be maintained under vacuum or with controlled air admission to promote penetration.
  • Series of air changes inside the autoclave to aid draining, drying and passivation of treated pieces.

Results and benefits
  • Impregnating solutions: typical penetration of 3–6 mm into sapwood.
  • Primers/topcoats: excellent penetration and adhesion to internal pore surfaces, improving finish durability.
  • Fully automatic operation reduces human error.
  • Sealed system prevents odor leaks; product can be recovered and returned to the reservoir.

Environmental and maintenance aspects
The vacuum pump is a liquid-ring type with a closed water circuit. The suction water is continuously recycled and must be periodically drained and renewed; it may contain residues from varnish products and requires proper handling.

Construction notes
Autoclaves are custom-built to match the size of the pieces to be processed. Parts leave the autoclave properly drained and treated. The system enables product recovery and limits emissions by confinement.
