a cable is an assembly of strands rolled around a central core ; this core may be metallic or textile. a strand is an assembly of metallic wires rolled around a central wire.
The composition of a cable is expressed using a combination of 2 numbers
The first is the number of strands.
The second is the number of wires which make up each strand, for example : 7 x 19 .
According to the cable composition, the uses and characteristics are different :
• A 7 strand x 7 wire cable with a metallic core is flexible, resistant and does not stretch easily.
• A 7 strand x 19 wire cable with metallic core is extra-flexible, resistant, but is less resistant to stretching. We recommend its use in applications where it will be subject to repetitive movements with or without bends.
• A 6 strand x 7 wire and 6 strand x 19 wire cable with textile core is more rigid and less resistant.
It is primarily used for domestic use, but is not recommended for lifting and pulling.
