JW Froehlich’s test stands for functional testing of electric drive units for a German OEM allow for a test almost as if under real-life conditions. Electric motors to the left and right of the EDU generate different torques in order to simulate cornering at different speeds. Coolant ensures – also subsequently in the vehicle – the correct temperature control of the installed power electronics. Elaborate control cabinets simulate the battery and the recuperation behaviour. To measure the torques on the output shafts, the internal electric motor of the test part is driven from the inside out.
The design of the development test stand gave priority to flexibility and top precision. The machine has been designed for test runs under full load, which requires particularly sophisticated measurement technology which delivers extremely high resolution data – not least thanks to JW Froehlich’s test and analysis software. The results form the basis for the layout for series production.
