In March 2024 Kalmar announced a strategic partnership with Forterra to develop our first fully autonomous terminal tractor. Kalmar’s autonomous terminal tractor will be able to operate safely and efficiently in your yard in mixed traffic without having a driver onboard in all types of weather conditions. Kalmar is currently developing the automation-ready terminal tractor solution – including existing, proven and scalable Kalmar One Fleet Management System used to manage the operation of automated terminal tractor fleets. Forterra’s proven AutoDrive platform is being integrated into Kalmar’s factory-built safety rated drive-by-wire system to support autonomous operations. Available in 2027 The autonomous terminal tractor continues to undergo extensive testing and validation, with live pilot deployments at customer sites already underway. The Kalmar Ottawa T2 AutoTT will be commercially available in 2027, followed by the Ottawa T2EV AutoTT and Kalmar TT7 EV AutoTT as part of the phased rollout of fully electric autonomous solutions.
