A member of the family of desktop instruments, a new generation of stand alone devices, is the size tester S10C, designed to determine the diameter, circumferences, ovality and aspect ratio of machine or hand made cigars. In contrast to other laser based size tester, at the S10C not the sample is turned for measurement, but the laser unit rotates around the sample. Therefore a measuring error due to wobbling of the sample is avoided. Independent from the diameter of the sample the circumference is scanned exactly 100 %. The size tester is controlled via touchscreen PC and offers USB port as well as Ethernet connection for fast and easy data transmission and handling. The S10C can be used to monitor production and for control of incoming goods. Special measurements are possible for R&D purposes. As one specific automated measuring routine, the determination of diameters necessary for smoking cigars as per Coresta Recommended Method 65 is provided. It includes a recommendation for sleeves, bobbins and puff volume to be used.
