They warn of pending internal problems, so that maintenance can be planned and unscheduled operational downtime avoided. If serious deviations are detected, a signal is sent to the operator, who can communicate with the encoder using the analysis software. The operator is informed of the frequency, internal temperature and operating period at the time of the fault. This can be used to deduct the cause of deviation, which in many cases is found outside of the encoder. Common sources of error are installation imbalances in the motor, and bearings starting to wear out, affecting not only the encoder, but the whole production unit. A small correction at the right time can make a big difference in the long run. ADS Classic is an option available for rotating incremental encoders in the Heavy duty 800 series.
