The material hatch is primarily used to rapidly hand over material from one area to another without the need that a person has to leave the room. Since the footprint of the hatch is very small and the ceiling can almost completely be covered with an air recirculation unit, the air renewal is hundreds of times per hour. So the residence time in accordance with GMP-guidelines is only a few seconds. The hatch has two doors (opposite or diagonally), which are mutually interlocked (electrical interlocking). The standard is a “preferred open” lock in which the respective opposite side is only locked when one of the doors is opened.
